OK, as I mentioned once before, Canada is purchasing 12 new minesweepers
for the reserves to use for "Coastal Defence". Basically, the reserves will
be using the minesweepers for _everything_, not just minesweeping.

It seems to me, (and others), that a slow-moving minesweeper may not be the
best platform for drug interdiction/fisheries patrol duties, and I got to
thinking, "what we need is a real patrol boat, something with a little
flash...". I got to thinking about hydrofoils and the such, and I remembered
that at one time, Canada had a hydrofoil in the works.

This was in the late 60's, and I understand that Canada's experiment was
quite successful. However, we never built the hydrofoils, due to costs,
etc... At the time, they were envisioned as multi-role patrol boats, with
both ASuW and ASW roles - there were even plans to mount a VDS on them,
although I'm not sure if they had figured on ASW weapons. Harpoons and guns
were planned before the project got cancelled.

But, now it seems that these ships would be more suited to patrol duties than
some stupid minesweeper, (on a tangent, I wonder what the names of the new
sweepers will be - hopefully they won't be named after "Bay's" like our last
ones, (Fundy, Chaudiere, etc...yawn...), or after islands like our "newer"
models, (Moresby, Anticosti, double yawn.....). The Yanks know how to name
ships - Exultant, Avenger, etc... Canada should losen it's tie, and take a
leading role on this issue - how about HMCS TOUCH OF DEATH, or HMCS
BLITZKRIEG just so other countries think we actually have an aggresive
navy, or something...). So anyway, this scenario is design around three
classes of patrol boats defending Canada's shores against the Red Menace.

War is begun, time is an important factor in the first hours of the war.
The ports of St. John, Shelbourne, Halifax, and Argentia must be protected
from mining by the Red's. Attack any Red merc's, and AGI's. There are
limited air assets flying out of Shearwater, (4 CP-140's), which can be used
for patroling the sector.

No subs are present, (we're assuming you nailed them all in the last
scenario...), but some surface combatants may be present. Try to sink all
Red shipping in the region using Patrol craft, but be wary of larger
combatants - attack these with CP-140's, (ASW loadout includes Harpoons).

Try to keep your patrol craft afloat, but don't cry too hard if you lose any.
Hell, they're just a bunch of dumb reserves anyway... Our harbours must be
defended at ALL COSTS!
